Prince of Tennis 177-178 Summary

Filed under: Prince of Tennis

Finally.

A Promise I won’t Forget - Goodbye Prince

Hyotei
Nani?! Hyotei??
Ryoma
Ryoma wa….sugoi!
Ryoma cries.
Ryoma cried! ;_;
Ryoma!
Ryoma…ganbare.

Ryoma beats his next opponent. Yaayy….an interviewer comes in, asks him a few questions, and it’s time for Ryoma to leave now.

Ryoma has a dream. He imagines himself running through a crowd of people that he’s seen playing tennis, and at the end is a white light. Everyone disappears behind him, and a shadow remains. All he sees are the eyes. He knows that this is a person he is burning to play against.

He gets to where he’s staying. Back in Japan, Kawamura delivers sushi to the Echizen house. Nanjirou is drunk. He says he wanted to go to America, but ended up falling asleep. ^_^;

Ryoma’s asleep and was waken up by a call from his cell phone. It’s Kawamura! (You should really hear this. Seriously, “Hallo, hallo? This is Kawamura speakingu!” XD So hilarious.”) Momo takes the phone from Kawamura nad asks how Echizen is doing and what-not. Momo tells Ryoma who the regulars are while Eiji mimics them behind Momoshiro as they’re listed. Momo said Tezuka was captain again, because of his match with Fuji.Ryoma asked who won, and Momo told him that Tezuka was victorious. Ryoma remembered his dream, and the shadow was Tezuka.

Ryoma picks up his phone and calls Tezuka.

” Hello?”
“Captain Tezuka…”
“Echizen….what’s wrong?”
“…Please have a match with me.”

Ryoma decides to go back to Japan for his match against Tezuka. David goes to look for Ryoma. He finds him and finds out where he’s going and hits him. At the airport, Ryoma tells David that the person he wants to face was his captain, and in order to find out if he’s good, he has to beat him. Divid understands and gives Ryoma the opportunity to hit him back. Ryoma obviously doesn’t.

Hyotei. Shishidou appears at practise and says to do well at the nationals. He wonders where Atobe is. It turns out that Atobe was in the gym, obviously angry with himself and wants to beat Sanada and Tezuka. He went to take a shower and sees a magazine open with an article about Ryoma. He throws his towel on it and leaves.

Sakaki has a talk with the regulars about the nationals. The regulars go to look for Atobe. At Atobe’s place, his waiter comes in with a phone call from Sakaki. Atobe had gone out for a jog. The regulars comtinue to look for him. While Ohtori (Yuushi) takes a walk, he hears someone playing at the Hyotei courts. He goes to the courts and finds Atobe playing against a wall. The other regulars find him too. In the school behind them, the students of Hyotei cheer with a big banner running down the wall. Atobe snaps, they stop cheering, and Atobe tells them he’ll play at the nationals. *cheer*

At Seigaku, the regulars have a conversation about Ryoma and Tezuka playing a match. The two play at the same place that they played back before Tezuka went for surgery. (See episode 25-26)

The match is something you have to see for yourself and can’t be explained in words. Nah, I’m just lazy. :P But seriously, it’s a good match. Complete with Tezuka dodging asteriods and lighting comming from their returns.

Near the end of the match, Ryoma gets emotional and thanks everyone on the team. “Ima made…Arigatou gozaimashta!” or “Up until now…Thank you very much!” He also included the person’s name before saying that. After thanking everyone, he cried. ;_; He thanked everyone as a whole, this time, including all of the tennis players in this anime. We see Hyotei, Rikkaidai, Fudomine, Yamabuki, Akutsu etc. At the end, Ryoma was kneeling on the floor.

“Good job Echizen. I lost.”

Tezuka holds his hand out for a shake, and pulls Ryoma to his feet. The regulars all tell him to do his best in America and Ryoma agrees. They come up with a pretty caqtchy cheer.

“Go! Go! Ryoma! Ganbare Ganbare Ryoma!”

Notes: This was probably one of my favourite episodes. It was obvious from the beginning who was going to win in this match. But heck. It’s anime.
